
Mariel Mulet
Mariel Mulet is an experienced labor and employment lawyer who has conducted hundreds of investigations in the academic and work settings. Her belief in the possibility of uncovering the root of problems by objectively analyzing the evidence determined her dedication to conduct thorough investigations, which she sees as a natural and effective way to resolve disputes.
Mariel Mulet investigates with precision and purpose, drawing on decades of legal and Title IX experience to resolve complex workplace and campus disputes.
Ms. Mulet’s experience spans from having litigated cases of harassment, discrimination and related retaliation for nine years to leading the Civil Rights and Title IX Office at California State University, Los Angeles for almost a decade.
Before focusing on investigations, Ms. Mulet represented plaintiffs and defense in litigation involving unlawful discrimination and harassment based on legally protected status, retaliation, failure to accommodate employees with disabilities, wage and hour violations, and whistleblower claims.
Ms. Mulet started conducting third-party investigations both in English and Spanish as an associate at Epstein, Becker and Green, P.C. first and later dedicated solely to those before joining California State University, Los Angeles. At Cal State LA, she addressed complaints from students, faculty and employees. In the academic setting, Ms. Mulet was responsible for implementing the different processes and regulations dictated by the Department of Education and California law, including expanding her expertise to investigating complaints of sexual assault, dating and domestic violence, stalking, and sexual exploitation.
In that capacity, Ms. Mulet not only conducted investigations herself, but also trained and formed other lawyers on how to conduct neutral and thorough investigations, reviewed numerous investigation reports conducted by others, mediated claims and grievances, regularly presented trainings on civil rights and Title IX related topics for diverse audiences in English and Spanish, and prepared position statements for civil rights agencies on behalf of the university. During her career, Ms. Mulet conducted investigations for the California State University system, University of California, University of Southern California, and other non-academic private employers.
Ms. Mulet is trained in trauma informed interviewing which allows her to respectfully connect with the parties and witnesses and better assess their credibility.
Ms. Mulet earned her law degree from the Universidad Nacional de Rosario, Facultad de Derecho, Argentina. She holds a master’s degree in International Relations from the University of Southern California and was admitted to the California Bar in 2000.
